The 8 Days Lemosho Route is widely considered the most scenic and successful route to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Starting from the west, this route crosses the Shira Plateau, traverses the southern circuit with breathtaking views, and offers the best acclimatization schedule, significantly increasing summit success rates. It’s ideal for those who want to enjoy varied landscapes and take a slower, more rewarding path to Africa’s highest peak.

Kilimanjaro Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Arusha/Moshi
Meet and greet at the airport and transfer to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. Briefing with your guide, gear check, and rest before the climb.
Day 2

Lemosho Gate (2,100 m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650 m)
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

Distance: 7 km

Zone: Montane Forest
Drive to Lemosho Gate, complete registration, and hike through lush rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Day 3

Mti Mkubwa – Shira 1 Camp (3,610 m)
Hiking Time: 5–7 hours

Distance: 8 km
Continue up through forest and onto Shira Ridge before descending to Shira 1 Camp on the plateau.
Day 4

Shira 1 – Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m)
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

Distance: 7 km
Trek across the scenic Shira Plateau, allowing time for acclimatization. Optional acclimatization hike available in the afternoon.
Day 5

Shira 2 – Lava Tower (4,600 m) – Barranco Camp (3,976 m)
Hiking Time: 6–8 hours

Distance: 10 km
Ascend to Lava Tower for acclimatization, then descend into the Barranco Valley. This climb-high, sleep-low pattern boosts your body's adaptation.
Day 6

Barranco – Karanga Camp (3,995 m)
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

Distance: 5 km
Trek up the impressive Barranco Wall, then descend into Karanga Valley before ascending to Karanga Camp.
Day 7

Karanga – Barafu Camp (4,673 m)
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

Distance: 4 km
Climb gradually to Barafu Camp, the base camp for summit night. Prepare for the final push with an early dinner and rest.
Day 8

Barafu – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Mweka Camp (3,100 m)
Hiking Time: 12–15 hours

Distance: ~15 km
Begin summit attempt around midnight. Reach Stella Point at sunrise and Uhuru Peak, the Roof of Africa. After photos and celebration, descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved sleep.
Day 9

Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Return to Arusha/Moshi
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

Distance: 10 km
Final descent through rainforest. Receive your certificate at Mweka Gate, and transfer to your hotel for a hot shower and relaxation.
Day 10

Departure
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight. Congratulations on a successful climb!
